Vase Montgolfier by Yvon Roy, Circa 1960. Unique production.

Description

Handsome, heavyweight ceramic vase decorated by Yvon Roy signed Mongolfier, France and bearing the initials "R.Y."
In the 1930s, Yvon Roy was a "contremaître" (atelier director) at the firm of Tessier in the famous ceramics village of Malicorne, renowned for its productions since 1747.
He moved to Durtal near Mans, Sarthe in 1943, establishing an atelier. The presence of clay, wood for burning, and rivers for transport permitted the creation of ceramic fabrication in this region of the Anjou.
In 1957, Monsieur de Montgolfier (familial descendant of the famous brothers, inventors of the air balloon), took over the directorship of the atelier, which had earned a fine reputation for the quality and the subtle enameled surfaces of its products. Injecting personal funds and boundless enthusiasm into the mix, Montgolfier created an innovative enterprise which is still active to this day.
Yvon Roy also worked at Quimper, producing some if its best, geometric, post-war designs. We possess a large family collection of Yvon Roy's work, and we will be offering it on line in the near future.
In the interim, we propose this splendid vase with its subtle, variegated, green and brown background, before which float the white outlines of a dove in flight.
Dating from the early 1960s, Yvon Roy's vase is in pristine condition and an unique production.
