Description
Antique brass circular stencil dated 1868-1871 New York Stencil Works Nassau St Album Album Album This auction is for an unusual antique brass circular stencil. It was made by the New York Stencil Works Co. of 87 Nassau St. in New York City and has patent dates of Aug 11, 1868 and May 30th, 1871. It has a rotating frame to select each letter and retains it's original wooden knob. It measures 10" in diameter.Condition is as-found and unpolished. I found one separation at the "Y" and "Z" intersection but you have to look for it. Also, it appears the "Q" may have originally had a center section but I cannot be sure as the brass doesn't show it.ALL THE VIALS SEEM TO BE FAIRLY FULL OF POWDER PAINT. EACH GLASS VIAL IS APPROX 2" TALL.
SOME OF THE ASSORTED COLORS ARE:
PURPLE BROWN, HANCOCK PASTE, IVORY YELLOW, SILVER YELLOW, LEMON, BRUNSWICK, HAIR BROWN ETC.
PAINTS ARE FROM CHINA MART, HAZELS, PENCE, RYNNE TO NAME A FEW..
I AM NOT AN EXPERT IN CHINA PAINTS JUST HOPE THEY FIND A NEW HOME WITH SOMEONE WHO COULD USE THEM TO CREATE.
THERE MAY BE A DUPLICATE VIAL OF COLOR ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A WELL USED COLOR.
